Creating Your Account
Learn how to create your Spaghetti Showdown account using Discord login, set up your profile, and understand the permissions involved.
Getting Started with Discord Login
Spaghetti Showdown uses Discord as its authentication provider. This means you do not need to create a separate username and password. If you already have a Discord account, you are one click away from joining the platform.
Why Discord?
The Fighting Game Community lives on Discord. By using Discord login, Spaghetti Showdown can connect you to your existing communities, verify your identity for tournament organizers, and reduce the friction of yet another account to manage. Your Discord username also serves as your default display name, though you can customize it later.
How to Log In
- Visit the Spaghetti Showdown website and click the Login button in the top navigation bar.
- You will be redirected to Discord's authorization page. If you are not already logged into Discord in your browser, you will be prompted to enter your Discord credentials first.
- Review the permissions that Spaghetti Showdown is requesting (details below) and click Authorize.
- You will be redirected back to Spaghetti Showdown, now logged in and ready to go.

What Happens When You First Log In
The first time you authorize with Discord, Spaghetti Showdown automatically creates your player account. Here is what happens behind the scenes:
- Your Discord username and avatar are imported as your default profile display name and picture.
- A player profile is created for you, which will track your tournament history, rankings, and Spaghetti Points balance.
- You receive a starting balance of Spaghetti Points as a welcome bonus.
- You are ready to browse tournaments, join communities, and enter events immediately.
There is no email verification step or lengthy sign-up form. Once you authorize through Discord, your account is live.
Setting Up Your Profile After Login
While your account is functional immediately, you will want to personalize your profile to get the most out of the platform. After logging in for the first time:
- Click on your avatar or username in the top navigation to open your profile menu.
- Select Profile Settings to access the profile editor.
- Add the games you play and the characters you main. This information appears on your public profile and helps tournament organizers with seeding.
- Optionally set a custom nickname if you go by a different tag than your Discord username.

Discord Permissions Explained
When you authorize Spaghetti Showdown through Discord, the application requests the following permissions:
- Identify — Allows the platform to read your Discord user ID, username, and avatar. This is used to create and display your profile.
- Email — Your email address is used only for critical account notifications. It is never shared publicly or with third parties.
- Guilds — Allows the platform to see which Discord servers you belong to. This is used to connect you with Spaghetti Showdown communities linked to those servers.
Spaghetti Showdown cannot read your messages, post on your behalf, or modify your Discord account in any way. You can revoke access at any time from your Discord settings under Authorized Apps.
Troubleshooting Login Issues
If you encounter problems logging in, try these steps:
- Make sure you are logged into Discord in your browser before attempting to authorize.
- Clear your browser cookies and try again if the authorization page does not load.
- If you see a "redirect mismatch" error, try using a different browser or disabling browser extensions that may interfere with OAuth redirects.
