Creating an Event or League

Understand the difference between events and leagues on Spaghetti Showdown, and learn how to create multi-tournament series with point systems.

Organizing Multi-Tournament Series

While individual tournaments are the building blocks of competitive play, events and leagues let you tie multiple tournaments together into a cohesive series with cumulative standings, point systems, and a season-long narrative. This guide explains the difference between events and leagues on Spaghetti Showdown and walks you through creating each.

Events vs Leagues

Understanding the distinction between events and leagues is important:

  • Events are one-time or short-duration gatherings that contain one or more tournaments. Think of a major like a regional or national competition that runs multiple game brackets over a weekend. An event groups those brackets under a single banner with shared branding and a unified schedule.
  • Leagues are long-running competitive series that span weeks or months. A league contains multiple tournament sessions (e.g., a weekly bracket), and players accumulate points across all sessions toward a league-wide leaderboard. Leagues often culminate in a finals event for the top-ranked players.

Creating an Event

  1. Go to your community dashboard and click Create Event.
  2. Enter the event name, description, dates, and optionally the venue or online platform.
  3. Upload a banner image that will be displayed on the event page and in social media previews.
  4. Save the event, then add tournaments to it from the event management page. Each tournament within the event can have its own game, format, and schedule.

Events provide a landing page where players can see all brackets, the overall schedule, and any additional information you add. This is ideal for multi-game majors where attendees want a single place to track everything happening at the event.

Creating a League

  1. From your community dashboard, click Create League.
  2. Enter the league name, description, game, and the start and end dates for the season.
  3. Configure the point system that determines how tournament placements translate to league points. You can choose from preset distributions or create a custom table (see Managing League Points).
  4. Optionally set a drop count, allowing players to discard their worst N results from the final standings. This encourages consistent attendance without punishing players who miss a session or two.
  5. Save the league. As you create tournaments throughout the season, link them to the league so that results automatically feed into the league standings.

Linking Tournaments to a League

When creating or editing a tournament, you will see a League dropdown. Select the parent league to link the tournament. Once the tournament is finalized, its results are automatically processed and points are added to the league leaderboard. You can also retroactively link a completed tournament to a league.

Season Management

Leagues support multiple seasons. When a season ends, you can archive it and start a new one. Archived seasons remain viewable with their final standings preserved, while the new season starts fresh. Player ELO carries over between seasons, but league points reset.
