Configure and Control Your League's Point System
League points are the backbone of competitive series on Spaghetti Showdown. They determine who qualifies for finals, who earns bragging rights, and who is crowned the season champion. This article covers everything you need to know about configuring, awarding, and managing league points.
Point Distribution
When a tournament linked to a league is finalized, points are awarded automatically based on final placement. The default point distribution is:
| Placement | Points |
|---|---|
| 1st | 10 |
| 2nd | 8 |
| 3rd | 6 |
| 4th | 5 |
| 5th - 6th | 4 |
| 7th - 8th | 3 |
| 9th - 12th | 2 |
| 13th+ | 1 |
This system rewards top finishers significantly while still giving participation points to everyone who enters. The gap between 1st (10) and 2nd (8) encourages players to push for the win, while the 1 point minimum ensures that showing up always counts.

Automatic Point Awards
When a tournament linked to a league is finalized, points are awarded automatically to all participants based on their final placement. These points immediately appear on the league leaderboard. The number of participants in the tournament is also recorded for reference.
If a tournament is unfinalized and re-finalized (e.g., after correcting a result), the points are recalculated automatically.
Manual Point Adjustments
Sometimes you need to award or deduct points outside of tournament results. Common scenarios include:
- Bonus points for community contributions, sportsmanship, or participation in special challenges.
- Penalty deductions for rule violations, unsportsmanlike conduct, or other disciplinary actions.
- Corrections for data entry errors or retroactive adjustments.
To make a manual adjustment, go to the league management page, find the player, and use the point adjustment controls. Manual adjustments are logged with timestamps for full transparency.
Standings and Tiebreakers
League standings are ranked by total accumulated points across all tournaments in the series. In the case of a tie, tiebreakers are resolved by: (1) number of tournament wins, (2) number of top-3 finishes, (3) head-to-head record between tied players, and (4) most recent result.
