Avatar Legends blew me away. This game is incredible, a straight-up drug.
I didn't give it a single cent of faith, and yet here I am, playing hour after hour with my gigachad Zaheer.
It's not perfect, but...
Let's be clear, this game is not perfect: I don't like that you can't block in the air, nor that there's no effective anti-air of any kind.
But the pros are incredible: that very absence of anti-airs makes the air game so important and so prevalent that you're constantly flying around. Confirming air-to-airs is maybe a bit too hard (except for Azula, the privileged one), but when it works it's glorious.
And then the characters have options, through the "Flow" mechanic, that let you play so freely it feels illegal.
Why Zaheer?
Memes about his beautiful face aside, I saw how his Flow works and I got hooked instantly.
Picture Dragon Knight from DNF Duel, or Robo-Ky in Strive: both can fly and cancel their air moves into flight for a mixup, a reposition or a bait... Well, take those mechanics and amplify them by 100.
Zaheer can fly at any moment, in any direction, cancelling his moves on whiff both into flight and out of flight, with completely different effects. He feels like MvC2 Sentinel (without being completely broken top 1).
Pure joy to pilot.
The video
You can see my experience in this supercut of my second session on Avatar: first I sat down to finish all of Zaheer's missions, then I moved on to playing online.
The game is so much fun that I started at 8 PM and suddenly found myself at midnight without even realizing it!
Go take a look at the video — you can watch me learn as it goes on!
And leave a comment here or on the video if you like this kind of content... I might start adding some voiceover to this kind of gameplay while I learn the game offstream!
