Importing from Start.gg

Bringing Your Start.gg Brackets into Spaghetti Showdown

If you have been running events on Start.gg (formerly Smash.gg) and want to migrate to Spaghetti Showdown, or if you want to pull in results from an external event, the Start.gg import feature makes the transition seamless.

What Can Be Imported

The Start.gg import tool supports importing:

• Participant lists - All registered players, including their gamer tags and seeding.
• Bracket results - Full bracket data including match scores and final placements.
• Event metadata - Tournament name, game, date, and format information.

This means you can import a completed tournament to preserve its history on Spaghetti Showdown, or import a participant list to run the bracket natively on the platform.

How to Import

1. Navigate to your community dashboard and click Import Tournament.
2. Select Start.gg as the import source.
3. Paste the URL of the Start.gg tournament or event you want to import. The URL should point to the specific event bracket (e.g., start.gg/tournament/your-event/event/street-fighter-6).
4. Click Fetch Data. The tool will retrieve the tournament information and display a preview of what will be imported.

Player Matching

During import, the system attempts to match Start.gg participants with existing Spaghetti Showdown accounts. Matching is performed by gamer tag and, when available, by linked Discord accounts. The import preview shows you which players were matched and which could not be found.

• Matched players are linked to their existing accounts. Results will appear on their profiles and affect their ELO.
• Unmatched players are created as placeholder entries. If those players later create accounts and claim their tag, historical results can be merged.

Reviewing and Confirming

Before finalizing the import, review the preview carefully:

• Verify that the player count and bracket structure look correct.
• Check that key players were matched to the right accounts.
• Confirm the game and format are accurate.

Click Confirm Import to complete the process. The imported tournament will appear on your community page with all results intact.

Limitations

Start.gg imports rely on the Start.gg API. If a tournament has restricted API access or uses non-standard bracket configurations, some data may not import cleanly. Very large tournaments (256+ participants) may take a few moments to process. If you encounter issues, ensure the Start.gg event URL is correct and that the event is publicly accessible.
