Bulk Import Players and Results from Excel
For organizers who manage participant lists in spreadsheets, Spaghetti Showdown supports importing players and results directly from Excel files. This is especially useful for migrating historical data or for events where registration was handled offline.
Supported File Formats
The import tool accepts .xlsx and .csv files. For best results, use a clean spreadsheet with a single header row and no merged cells. The importer will attempt to detect your column layout automatically, but following the recommended format will ensure a smooth experience.
Recommended Excel Format
Your spreadsheet should include the following columns:
| Column | Required | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Player Name / Tag | Yes | The player's gamer tag or display name |
| Seed | No | Numeric seed value (1 = highest seed) |
| Placement | No | Final placement (for importing completed results) |
| Discord ID | No | Discord user ID for account matching |
| Team | No | Team or sponsor tag |

How to Import
- From your tournament page (before the bracket is started), click Import Participants.
- Select Excel / CSV as the import source.
- Upload your file using the file picker or drag and drop.
- The importer will display a preview of the parsed data. Map each detected column to the appropriate field (Player Name, Seed, etc.) using the dropdown selectors.
- Review the parsed player list. The system will attempt to match player names to existing Spaghetti Showdown accounts and highlight any matches found.
- Click Import to add all players to the tournament.
Mapping Players to Accounts
The importer matches players by comparing the tag in your spreadsheet against existing accounts in your community. Exact matches are linked automatically. For partial or ambiguous matches, you can manually select the correct account from a dropdown. Players with no match are added as unlinked entries that can be claimed later.

Importing Results Only
If you want to import a completed tournament (for example, historical data from before you started using Spaghetti Showdown), include the Placement column in your spreadsheet. The import tool will create the tournament with finalized standings, allowing those results to count toward league points and ELO calculations.
Troubleshooting
If the importer fails to parse your file, ensure there are no merged cells, hidden rows, or multiple sheets. The tool reads the first sheet only. Remove any summary rows or totals at the bottom of your data. If column detection is incorrect, use the manual mapping dropdowns to correct it before importing.
